Today we’d like to introduce you to Belinda Caballero.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I saw my grandfather and my father running their own businesses, and I knew then I wanted to follow in their footsteps and open my own company. Something about creating a company, creating jobs and working to provide a great service to clients appealed to me.

As a teenager, my father taught me a lot of valuable lessons about the do’s and don’ts of running a business, he taught me how to do the bookkeeping for his company and instilled a great work ethic in me. I held different positions throughout my career as I tried to figure out my path.

I knew two things, I wanted to work in the medical field, and I wanted to work for myself; I just wasn’t sure which aspect I wanted to concentrate on. After I graduated as a cardiovascular and X-ray technician in 1998, I took the Florida state exam to become a licensed X-ray technician and began working in healthcare. Throughout the next several years, I also worked as a phlebotomist, a medical assistant, a front desk assistant, and in August 2006, as a practice administrator and medical biller.

I knew I was on the right path to achieve my goals. I continued my studies and received my medical billing certification, and in 2012, I received my Master of Business Administration in Healthcare. I went on to successfully open BC Medical Billing, and I have been coding, billing, providing insurance contract services, and providing revenue cycle management consultation ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
I do not think about starting and running a business is ever a smooth road; however, I have been fortunate. I had a great support system at home. My son and husband helped a lot and offered a lot of encouragement. I think it helped that I had a vision and knew exactly what direction I wanted to take with my company.

I also listened to a lot of advice from family and friends who own or have owned businesses. I was willing to learn from the triumphs and mistakes of those who had done it before me. I also encourage employee feedback which has helped me grow as a business owner. There are always ups and downs in running your own company.

You always want to make sure your clients and your staff are happy, and this always involves a lot of worrying. However, the one thing I was certain of is how I wanted to run my company. I wanted an honest, hardworking and ethical company. Companies sometimes have a generalized reputation about not caring. I did not want to be one of those companies.

I wanted to provide a great service to my clients while creating a positive work culture for my staff and giving back to the community. This meant a lot of sleepless nights, hard work and training in order to achieve those goals. My staff has been an integral part of this plan, and I have been lucky to find people who share the same work ethic and values that I have.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity in South Florida. There are always new things to do and try on any given day of the week. Our city is always alive with art, music, and food from all over the world. But more importantly are the wonderful mixtures of cultures and people that surround us in South Florida… And of course, our beautiful beaches!
